Running around in the darkness for hours, he tried finding a way out of the maze of this jungle. He had just lost sight of his mother for a second, before being swept away by the stream of people, and then losing consciousness due to the suffocating crowd, only to wake up in an unknown forest, all alone in the dark.
Slowing down, he stopped to catch his breath. His body was aching from all the fruitless running, yet he did not lose hope. Standing up straight again, he looked around, realising that he was nowhere near the edge of the thick set of trees, instead went in deeper. A sudden wave of exhaustion hit him, his body onto a tree not to lose balance. He tried hard to control himself, but just couldn't anymore, sliding to the ground. He brought his knees up to his chest and buried his face into them, sobbing softly. He had never felt more scared, alone and vulnerable. He cried thinking about his family, his weak state, the horrible situation. He thought about anything and everything, until his eyes had no more tears left to cry with.
He was tired, tired of everything, and that as the last thought in his helpless mind was about to go to sleep, when he heard the rustle of a bush nearby. His eyes shot open, head snapping up, mind debating whether it was just his imagination, when he heard it again, only this time, it was followed by footsteps. They were coming closer, and closer.
Shuddering due to the sudden sweep of chilled air, he slowly stood up, grabbing his almost dead flashlight and holding onto the tree for support. The footsteps had stopped, the only sounds around being the whooshing of the wind, rustling of the leaves, and his own heavy breathing. He could feel the presence of someone in front of him, not being able to see any of their features, only the silhouette in the dim moonlight. Turning on the flashlight, he carefully lifted it to shine on the figure, hands trembling with fear.
A shocked gasp escaped his mouth, the flashlight slipping out of his hands crashing into the ground, in pieces. His eyes were wide open, nothing having prepared him for what he's seen.
"D-dad?" He stuttered, whispering. It came out more as a question, his mind still not accepting the fact that his supposed to be dead father was right here, standing in front of him, very much alive. The man stepped forward, right into the patch of moonlight which shone through the trees, his lips holding a light smirk.
"At last, I've found you, son."
